Court Upholds Catholic School's Firing Of Pro-Choice Teacher
DOVER, Del., Jun. 8, 2006 (www.wsbtv.com) - A federal appeals court has upheld the firing of a Catholic school teacher who publicly supported the Roe v. Wade decision in a newspaper ad.
Michele Curay-Cramer's name was on the ad published in Delaware's Wilmington News Journal on the 30th anniversary of the Supreme Court abortion ruling.
The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which defended Ursuline Academy, noted that on that same day the all-girls school was sending students to Washington to protest Roe v. Wade.
Becket Fund President Anthony Picarello said Curay-Cramer, a religion teacher at Ursuline, was "publicly repudiating the school's religious teaching."
The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with a lower court, which dismissed Curay-Cramer's lawsuit against the school.
