SUNDAY READINGS

------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------
Questions on Sunday's readings for use by discussion groups,
prayer groups, or for individual prayer.
------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------

First Reading
Exodus, Chapter 19, Verses 2-6a

1. Here are the words of God: “I bore you up on eagle wings and brought you here to myself.” Notice who takes the initiative in this reading. How does the fact that God sought you first affect your relationship with God?

2. How do you act when you love someone? Explain the relationship between “God is love” and “God sought you first.”

Second Reading
Romans, Chapter 5, Verses 6-11

1. What further initiatives of God does Paul recount in this reading? How did “God prove his love for us”? How do you prove your love for other people?

2. Did Christ die for you because you are worthy? What kind of love dies or performs kind deeds for friends? What about doing this for enemies? Where do you fit with the kind deeds for friends and enemies?

Gospel
Matthew, Chapter 9, Verses 36 – Chapter 10, Verse 8

1. Think of ways you can “cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers and drive out demons.”

2. Compare the Israelites in the desert with the troubled and abandoned crowds that Jesus saw. Why does God choose coworkers? How does God use you to care for the “troubled”?
