Microsoft links 1000s of photos for panoramic 2009 Presidential Inauguration view
by Kris Abel

JANUARY 21, 2009 (http://krisabel.ctv.ca)  -  Thanks to a growing supply of user-submitted photographs taken by attendees at yesterday's Inaugural ceremonies for U.S. President Barack Obama, CNN has assembled an explorable panorama of the ceremony using Microsoft's unique Photosynth software.

The technology analyzes a collection of photos taken at the same location and maps them out in 3D, charting the different angles and positions each photo has in relation to the others. The result is a shifting, zoomable experience where you can use your mouse to move deeper into a scene, change angles, and see things not available at first glance. Its like being able to change seats, to see what its like to not only sit closer to the podium, but to move to the other sides of the audience's view.
