Prayer of the Hours

In the past few days, I have been feeling a little restless. I am currently caught in what feels like an awkward-in-between stage and it bothers me that I don’t know what to do with myself. It seems like I am simply waiting for my life to start back up again. I’m waiting for something to happen, but I’ve never been good at not knowing what comes next.

It is from that stand point that I read this week’s liturgy, where I came across Jesus’ words in the gospel: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.” It hit me how difficult it was for me to hear that said to the disciples.

These were men that had been with Jesus for years now, watching and learning and following faithfully, yet he still would not share everything. He still made them wait to know his plans. He said that they weren’t ready yet, but, when the time was right, he would send out his Spirit to them.

In the second reading, the Holy Spirit is compared to a channel of God’s love, ensuring that hope, which was carried through afflictions, did not disappoint. It is also noted as a Spirit of truth and peace.

It is these same graces of the Holy Spirit that I ask for.

While I know there is a plan, I am impatient in not knowing. On the other hand, God has done amazing and wonderful things for me in the past, and the promise of the Spirit still remains. Eventually all will be understood.

Until then I will have to be like those patient disciples and trust in the slow work of God.
